Wembley 2000

January 1, 2025

The documentary was a very good one, it had interviews of important people and fans, it talked about the emotion behind the club and the whole town and how they reacted when they was in the final of the playoffs and this documentary talked about the style of football, the good characters and the money made and lost. The club went through a lot and I learnt that the fans season after season in the 90s they thought it would be there's, the would usually always think that they are going to go to play Europe football and think they can go up. The fans thinking this shows how good the club was and everyone thought Ipswich was one of the best clubs in the world. They talked about the best players back then and how they impacted on the squad and the club and there was one player who said when he scored in the last game of the season the crowd cheered so loud and they thought they came second and went up but Manchester City went up. They went on talking about the famous play off Bolton win, Ipswich went 2-0 down then there was a goal which made it 2-1 and everyone in the stadium thought the game was back on. Ipswich went to score another which made it 2-2 and they then went to play a second leg which was called to be one of the best games in history. Bolton went up 1-0 and from then they game turned around, Ipswich went to win 5-3 that game which took them to Wembley and the good old fashion pitch invade happened, this was the moment when Ipswich knew something big was going to happen. They said that everything talked about in the town was only about the football and nothing else because the greatest moment in history could happen to the club. Fans made their own banners and flags and got into it and the que was massive, there was a lot of fans and this moment was the talk of the town. At Wembley there was over 40,000 Ipswich fans, the players in the documentary said when looking at the blue fans it felt like the whole town was there, the fans thought "wow, this is it". The moment was so high and everyone felt so positive, the players were so happy playing at Wembley let alone going to win it.
Playoff final, Ipswich went 1-0 down very early in the game and some fans already thought it was game over, a top player came off the pitch with an injury and everything was going bad to worse for Ipswich. The injury was the top goal scorer, a few minutes later Ipswich scored a header and it went to 1-1. The player who scored the header gave a heart felt message in the documentary and he said he wanted to play so much for his wife who passed 6 months before the game with breast cancer, he loved the club and the town and so did his wife and he wanted to show that on the pitch. Ipswich gave a penalty away and and Ipswich goalkeeper saved the penalty which was cheered like a goal and then it ended 1-1 at half time. The second half kicked off and Ipswich scored to make it 2-1 and this is when the whole town had that thought of the biggest win in football history, then the third goal went in to make it 3-1. This was described as the "omg moment". Ipswich give another penalty away and this time scores it to make it 3-2. Then Ipswich bought on a super sub, described as a super sub because he smashed a stopping goal 1 on 1 goal which made it 4-2 and the feelings from the whole town that went in, was such a good feeling, the scenes were incredible, the town knew they were going up and so they did.
They talked about how fans reacted to the win and they fans went mental, the fans were so happy and it felt like every fan and player was together as one team. The players said it was a dream come true, holding a trophy towards the fans and lifting it up in the air, fans being so happy and one Ipswich player gave his shorts to a Barnsley player. The players were so happy as well as the fans and the players felt so proud, they achieved their goal and the fans today still speak to it and refer it to the best game they have ever watched in Ipswich's history.
Everyone was happy, the manger led the singing and dancing and they were drinking beer and on the way home they said they felt so proud as they would see fans high fiving other fans, people not knowing each other jumping together and singing, the club is massive and this is why I wanted to watch this documentary, the fans want to hear it and want to be reminded about the best of the history.
